Frequently Asked Questions

What type of Timber Treatment is best for my purpose?

Outdoor Use

  • CCA - the purpose of CCA (Copper Chromium Arsenate) Treatment of timber is to protect the timber from insects and fungal decay. The protection achieved by this process, due to the complete penetration of the Sapwood by CCA, cannot be matched by "paint on" preservatives. For satisfactory long term performance, it is still necessary to protect CCA treated timber against weathering, with a suitable paint, stain, or oil system. Our CCA treatment can have higher rates of concentration – up to H6, which is used for water immersion applications, such as oyster beds and wharves. More information at http://www.csiro.au/resources/CCATreatedTimber.html

  • LOSP – the purpose of LOSP (Light Organic Solvent Preservative) treatment is to protect the timber against termite damage. LOSP Treated Timber can be painted, stained or oiled. If painting is required, it is recommended to use oil based undercoats. Unpainted surfaces exposed to the elements need regular applications of a good quality timber finish.

How do I work out how many woodchips I need?

  • This is a common question and we recommend that woodchips be spread 100mm thick for best results. Therefore 1m3 will cover 10 square metres. All you need to do is roughly step out your area (1 Large step = Approx 1m) and work out how many square metres you have to cover then divide by 10 and there you have m3. See example below

    • 15x20 = 300m2

    • 300/10=30m3
